Pool Fence – Is it a Necessity or a Luxury?
A pool fence – when some people hear about it they would usually think it’s just for show or just another unnecessary part of the home. Yet if you are a pool owner, you wouldn’t really hesitate that much on installing such feature into your pool area. But then again, there are always pros and cons in all things. Analyzing first what a pool fence is, its uses, its cost and its credibility will then lead to a firm conclusion of wither you need it or is it just another luxury item ready to empty your pockets.
What is a pool fence?
First and foremost, fences are being erected around homes, shops, offices and all other properties that require protection, security and enclosure. A pool fence, well in regards to its obvious name, implies for a fence to be installed around the pool area. The main question is “Is it necessary?”. Here are some key points to remember in distinguishing it as a necessity:
- Pools are very entertaining and all, but we shouldn’t set aside the fact that they are also lethal, especially to young children. Drowning, according to the American Center for Disease Control and Prevention, has been the second leading cause of death among suburban children ranging from ages 0-14 years old. Installation of a pool fence around the pool area might prevent or lessen this death rate.
- Pets are also not safe when it comes to drowning. Some dogs, which aren’t trained to swim, might come to an instance to jump over to the pool without the owner noticing or knowing about it; thus causing an imminent death to the animal.
- House parties and cotillions are very common in countries such as the US. Although some guests are not intended to be swimming in the pool for some reasons (strict parents maybe), they still jump in the pool without the consent of the owner.
Think first of the facts mentioned above and then analyze the consequences that would happen if a pool fence was inexistent. As you go through this, look at the other factors involved when it comes to thinking “Is it a luxury?” Here are some things to look at:
- Materials and equipment that are to be used in installing a pool fence should be considered first. Suburban homes and commercial pools prefer glass and iron railings to make the pool area look elegant, classy and spacious. However, pool owners located in the rural areas can’t have such fences due to material scarcity and colloquial thinking. Instead they stick to wood or brick for they are very common in these areas.
- Budget and costing should also be given a thought of. Although a pool owner might think that they really need to have a pool fence, their lack of money reserves hinder the idea. Creation of a pool fence usually gives heavy costs on material, labor and maintenance.
- Finally, space and time can also make an owner wonder before giving the pool fence a try. If the pool area isn’t that big enough, installation of a pool fence might give the area a rowdy and claustrophobic look. Even the owner’s scarce time will make the construction almost impossible to finish.
With the said factors, it is really up to the owner if an installation of a pool fence is necessary, or is it just another wanted luxury that doesn’t even give any sense in constructing, but just to give headaches due to high costs and time consuming efforts.
